Background: FGFR4 (Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 4) is a member of a family of tyrosine kinases involved in many pathways that play a significant role in cancer. FGFR4 is highly expressed in embryonic tissues and is involved in embryonic development, angiogenesis, and tissue differentiation. In adults, it is involved in bile regulation, metabolism, and tissue repair. Overexpression of FGFR4 has been detected in multiple types of human cancer, such as breast, liver, colon, and prostate cancers, and is associated with resistance to chemotherapy and radiation. Therefore FGFR4 is of great interest as a target for cancer therapies.
